Rental Trucks

Depending on the amount of furniture and other belongings you are moving from one location to another, you will need a truck of the right size. There are moving trucks available in many different sizes for people from a variety of families and living situations. Small trucks are best for individuals or couples, medium-sized moving trucks for families and large semi-trailers for companies and corporate relocation.

Getting a Quote or Working with a Budget

This depends on your preference. Some people prefer to have an up-front quote, so they know exactly how much money they will need on the day of the move. Others do not really know how much they should pay, but they know they have unique needs which will cause custom prices. Or these clients may want to move something, but only if it is favorable to do so.

Fuel Costs and Truck Rental

Depending on the company, there are two ways to charge for the moving services. In some cases, the movers will charge the client by the hour and this will include the gas for the truck. In most local moves this will be the norm, but if you are coming from out of town or even interstate then the gas price may be added to the bill. If you are going with the moving truck yourself, then you can be in full control of purchasing gas as well.

Truck Rental and Permits

Many people rent a truck and do not realize that they may not have the correct permit to drive it from the DMV. There are different categories of licenses and you may need to apply for one that allows you to drive a truck as well. If you cannot get this permit, then you will need to hire a truck driver along with the rental. The driver may or may not help with moving, depending on what is in the contract.

If you need help moving your belongings then make sure you hire several movers as well. Many people prefer to work with their family and friends instead and find that there are more problems because there are not enough professionals about.

Stop-Overs for Drivers

It is important to take regular breaks when you are driving long distances and if you are traveling across several states and overnight, then you will need to stop at a motel or a hotel. It is important to get a good night’s rest if you have been driving all day and many of the big moving trucks will be prohibited from being driven by one driver for more than eight hours per day.

Truck drivers often find that they have many fantastic stops to choose from when they are on the road. Some of America’s greatest eateries and diners are located at truck stops all over the country. Some families have had a great holiday combined with a move by traveling across the country in a truck or a convoy with their furniture. This can be a good, fun bonding activity in the family to make long distance moving more tolerable.
